Miss Vickie's Ristoranti Series - Ask for Luigi: Cacio e Pepe Review

A delectable entry in the Miss Vickie’s Ristoranti series, showcasing a selection of amazing Italian restaurants across Canada!

I’ve always been a fan of unique chip flavours that I proactively go seek them out when I go grocery shopping. They don’t appear often, but when they do, I get super excited to try them out. This time around, Miss Vickie’s came out with a set of 3 limited edition chip flavours that features a line up of well renowned Italian restaurants across Canada; Montreal’s Nora Grey, Vancouver’s Ask For Luigi, and Toronto’s Pizzeria Badiali. Each flavour showcasing a dish from their respective menus. This is a review of the Cacio e Pepe flavour from Ask for Luigi, a Michelin recommended restaurant that serves family style Italian cuisine in Vancouver.

Chip Bag: Front & Back

Eye Catching Packaging

The bags in this Ristoranti series have a really unified classy packaging. Saturated colours with golden ornate trim bordering the logo and picture of the dish depicting the flavour. On the back is a brief quip of the purpose for this series of limited chips with it being a, “love letter to some of the best Italian restaurants in Canada.”

Visually, the chips themselves have a nice light cheesy coating speckled with black pepper. It’s really looks like the pasta dish on the front of the bag, but in chip form!

Chips Full of Flavour

These chips are really delicious and flavourful, but a tad on the saltier side. Just as advertised though, Cacio e Pepe does mean cheese and pepper, and it certainly delivers. Specifically for the dish, Pecorino Romano and black pepper. It’s cheesy and has a very peppery note that lingers for quite a while afterwards. Despite it being saltier than to my liking, it’s a really good savoury chip. Perfect as a snack paired with a beverage of choice.

A Satisfying Crunch

These chips do not disappoint. I love super crunchy potato chips, so Miss Vickie’s is one of my usual go-to chips if I want a satisfying crunch. It also gives off a creamy texture from the cheesiness, reminiscent of me of eating actual cheesy pasta. That may or may not be to everyone’s liking, but I certainly love it. I don’t know how they do it. I am reminded of some chips I’ve tried before that gives off that same illusion of creaminess, the Doritos Creamy Jalapeno Poppers flavour. These are now the second time getting that acquired mouth feel.

The Chips

Final Thoughts:

This is a very fun and unique collaboration. I appreciate how it promotes three Canadian restaurants that, at least to myself, might not be the most widely known unless you’re a local. Making their signature flavours be widely accessible to a greater audience by showing off the restaurant’s essence in chip form. It definitely entices me to at least check out the different restaurants if I’m ever in the area. Unfortunately, since this is a limited release, it’s very difficult to find. I was lucky enough to grab the last and only bag when it was available. Highly recommended if you can get your hands on some. I wish I was able to grab more! Would definitely get again if there’s a chance there is a re-release in the future.

Better yet, showcase other types of restaurants Miss Vickie’s, this is a very fun series!

Highly Recommended!
